homelands

a body of visual research that grapples with the violence of making a nest on stolen land (utilising modes of photographic degeneration and heavily layered material processes)

material process (top work):

  • photograph of my street turned into an etching plate using laser engraving

  • resulting print scanned, enlarged, gridded, printed onto A4 paper

  • each sheet cut into 4 uneven pieces

  • stitched together

  • blurred text imposed using a hand cut stencil

material processes (middle works):

stitching and collaging together fragmented layers of:

  • digital photographs of my street corrupted on text edit

  • polaroid photographs stripped into layers using acetone

  • printing negatives onto acetate sheets

  • printing sections of etchings (printed using a laser cut plate) onto photographic paper

material processes (bottom works):

analogue collages containing:

  • digital photograph distorted via unconventional use of photocopier

  • ball point pen drawing distorted via unconventional use of photocopier
